Every Litter Bit Counts for Waste Reduction Week
October 20-26 was a busy time this year for GEEP as it supported events across Canada for the country’s Waste Reduction Week. Corporate partners such as Samsung Canada and NCR held e-waste collection events to support the initiatives of the week. The Recycling Council of Ontario held its annual Awards Gala in Toronto where leaders from the industry and their partners gathered to celebrate reduction, reuse and recycling successes over the past year. CARI, the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries held their annual networking event bringing together some of North America’s biggest drivers of recycling practices. GEEP Employees challenged themselves to help reduce the 1.8 billion paper cups that are sent to landfills every year in Canada by ‘lugging a mug’ with them to work for their coffee and tea. The Vancouver team joined partner London Drugs at We Day at the Rogers Arena to talk to youth about how recycling can help our planet. But the most important message of the week is that reducing waste is a 365 day a year action oriented practice. Everyone can make a big difference, one litter bit at a time.
